While some are direct equity holders in the Bank, others provide loans or grants for technical assistance and capacity building.

The Aga Khan Agency for Microfinance (AKAM) is a not-for-profit international development agency, established in 2005. Since its establishment, the agency has taken over all microfinance activities, programmes and banks that were previously administered by sister agencies within the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). The underlying objectives of the Agency are to reduce poverty, diminish the vulnerability of poor populations and alleviate economic and social exclusion. In 2005, AKAM took over the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development's (AKFED) shares in the FMFB to become its majority shareholder.

The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a non-denominational, international development agency established in 1967 by His Highness the Aga Khan. Its mission is to develop and promote creative solutions to problems that impede social development, primarily in Asia and East Africa. It is a modern vehicle for traditional philanthropy in the Ismaili Muslim community under the leadership of the Aga Khan. AKF is a primary shareholder in FMFB-T and the parent agency of the Mountain Societies Development Support Programme (MSDSP), one of the two microfinance institutions from which FMFB-T evolved, the other being the Enterprise Support Facility of AKFED. The Bank benefits from a close working relationship with AKF and its long-standing presence and expertise in Tajikistan.

International Finance Corporation (IFC) is an international organisation that promotes sustainable private sector investment in developing countries as a way to reduce poverty and improve people's lives. IFC is a member of the World Bank Group and is headquartered in Washington, DC. Established in 1956, IFC is the largest multilateral source of loan and equity financing for private sector projects in the developing world. The entry of IFC as a shareholder in each of the FMFBs has been instrumental in allowing the Banks to expand their operations by bolstering their capital base.

KfW Bankengruppe is a diverse promotional finance group majority owned by the German federal government. KfW provides economic impulses for the economy, society and ecology in Germany, Europe, and the world over. It supports change, promotes promising ideas and finances investments and accompanying consulting services in developing countries. It carries out its work and its development mandate on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). KfW's partnership with the FMFBs is diverse and they are active as a shareholder, provider of a line of credit, and supplier of grant funds for technical assistance.

The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) is an agency of the Canadian federal government. It has a mandate to support sustainable growth in developing countries in order to reduce poverty and contribute to a more secure, equitable, and prosperous world. The Agency's work is concentrated in the poorest countries in the world. CIDA also supports democratic development and economic liberalisation in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. CIDA's goal in supporting microfinance is to continue to increase the accessibility of financial and non-financial services to the poor, with special emphasis on women. CIDA has contributed to FMFB-T's development by providing technical assistance grants to fund the senior management of the Bank, as well as the implementation of a management information system.
